James E. Carrese
Head Coach of Baseball
Coach Carrese was appointed Head Coach of Baseball at Shenendehowa in the spring of 1991. Since then the Plainsmen Baseball program has established itself as one of the finest Class AA baseball programs in New York State. Three times in 16 seasons the Plainsmen have been named in national and regional High School baseball polls {1994-1996-2002} for USA Today, Collegiate Baseball and Easton HS poll.
Shenendehowa Baseball has produced 72 Collegiate baseball players and 10 professional contracts in those 19 seasons. There are currently 16 graduates participating in College baseball. Six of those players are on Division I scholarships. Murphy Smith `06 {Binghamton University} was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round in June 2009. He is currently pitching in their farm system.
Coach Carrese`s 19 season record is 300-148 (.670 ) with the Suburban Council record at 198-86 (.697 ). Under Coach Carrese the Plainsmen have won 13/19 Division Championships, two Section Two Championships in 1994 and 1996,twice Finalists for the AA Section Two Championship in `05 & `06, twice NYS Regional Championships, `94 & `96 and played in the NYS Final Four in `94 & `96. The 1996 Plainsmen were NYS Finalist in the Class A bracket.
The Plainsmen Baseball program has been awarded the NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Award 19/19 seasons under Coach's direction.
Coach is the Region I ABCA {American Baseball Coaches Association} Chair for the HS All-American Committee. He received the 2005 ABCA Region I Coach of the Year award and was selected to speak at the national convention for the ABCA in San Diego 2009. He has also been selected as a speaker for the 2009 BCA Convention in Tucson, Az and the 2008 NYSPHSAA Clinic in historic Cooperstown, NY at the Hall of Fame.
Jim also serves a a founding member and VP of the newly formed NYSBCA {New York State Baseball Coaches Association}. In addition to those duties Coach Carrese has served on the Section Two Baseball Committee as the Suburban Council chair since 1996.
Coach founded the CPBC {Clifton Park Baseball Camps} in 1994. The camps for High School and Youth players serve 300 players annually. The CPYBC {Clifton Park Yankees Baseball Club} was founded in 2001 to afford opportunities for our High School players to play in a competitive
Fall league.
The Shenendehowa Baseball program is pleased to have served the Community Baseball programs for more than 20 years. Our Youth Coaches Clinics in March-April and our on the field clinics with different age groups have established a tradition in the Capital District.
