RHP Murphy Smith `06 was drafted today
in the MLB Draft # 393 overall.
Smith, a 6`3"" 205 ib Junior at
Binghamton University was selected in
the fifth round by the Oakland
Athletics.
Smith was the 2009 America East
Conference Pitcher of the Year, a 1st
Team All Conference and garnered
numerous in season awards for his
stellar season.

In High Scool, Murphy was a 1st Team
All-State Pitcher in 2006 and
All-League, All Area Media consensus
1st team for his Junior and Senior seasons.
Murphy`s brother Trevor just completed
a stellar scholarship career at
Northeastern University and still
awaiting news on a professional
contract. Their youngest brother Morgan a scholarship pitcher also at BU, was in the bullpen for the America Eastchampions.

2009 Baseball: 18-7{12-4}

SC Champions

***Congratulations to the Shenendehowa Plainsmen Baseball Team for it`s capture of the 2009 Suburban Council Championship. The Champion is the # 1 seed in the Section Two Class AA Tournament that begins May 28th.
The Varsity is also the North Division Champion. This is the 14th Division Championship in the past 19 seasons for the Plainsmen.
The Plainsmen finish 18-6 overall and finish 12-4 in the Suburban Council.

++** Again , congratulations are in order for RPI RHP Andrew Mondo `06 who was recently named to the ABCA D-III 2nd team All-American Team. Mondo was the Liberty League Pitcher of the year recently. Mondo a junior at RPI had a 11-2 record with a ERA under 3.00.

+ Congratulations to former Plainsmen Bill Norris `87 for his recent induction into the Eckerd College Hall of Fame this past weekend. Look for news and updates in Recent News in the next week concerning the details and a link to read about Plainsmen Legend Bill Norris.
Norris was drafted in the 16th round by the Red Sox and was the PawSox {AAA} Comeback player of the year in 1993 .
Norris` career ended due to a serious ankle injury.

+ Congratulations to Junior Andrew Kalish {RHP/inf} on his selection as a "Outstanding Leader in the School Community" as indicated by the Capital District YMCA. Andrew and a handful of Shenendehowa HS students will be honored at a Breakfast hosted by the YMCA on Friday May 15th.

++ Congratulations to Andrew Mondo and the RPI Baseball team coached by the legendary Karl Steffan. Mondo `06 led the Liberty League in Pitching and was named as the Pitcher of the Year in the Liberty League. RPI is seeded first in the NCAA Regional Tournament.

David Goerold `07 was the # 2 Pitcher statistically in the Liberty league, leading the Clarkson team with a record of 3-2.

++ Our Annual Youth Coaches Clinics were conducted on March 14th and April 11th this year. 112 Community Baseball coaches attended the March session and 65 coaches attended the April session.

Shenendehowa Baseball kicks off 2009 Season with a win in their Home Opener.....
April 14th

Travis Belleard struggled all day until the 3-2 pitch in the 5th inning with two outs in a 5-5 tie game vs North Division opponent Ballston Spa.
The senior 3B , who had tallied key hits in his junior campaign, ripped a 3-2 fastball deep into the gap in left center and changed the game for good.
His 3 Run double was followed by a RBI single by leftfielder junior Dan Lenney.
Scott Buniak`s solo home run in the second and senior captain Bryan Marotta`s run scoring single in the first rounded out the Plainsmen scoring.

March 3rd

Murphy Smith `06, All-State Pitcher and # 2 Pitcher at Binghamton University has been named the America East Player of the Week for the first week of the 2009 season.

January 28th

Head Coach James E. Carrese recently gave a speech to the ABCA National Convention/Clinic in San Diego, California.
The ABCA is a 10,000 member Coaches Association, the largest coaches association in the world.
Coach Carrese`s Power Point presentation was on "How to Build a High School Program". The Power Point and attached notes can be found on our Download Menu.
Coach is the Region I represenative to the ABCA HS All-American Committee and was named the ABCA Region I Large school Coach of the Year in 2005.
