
Coach Carrese was appointed Head Coach of Baseball at Shenendehowa in the spring of 1991. Since then the Plainsmen Baseball program has established itself as one of the finest Class AA baseball programs in New York State. Three times in 20 seasons the Plainsmen have been named in national and regional High School baseball polls {1994-1996-2002} for USA Today, Collegiate Baseball and Easton HS poll.
Shenendehowa Baseball has produced 75 Collegiate baseball players and 9 professional contracts in those 20 seasons. There are currently 13 graduates participating in College baseball. Two of those players are on Division I scholarships. Murphy Smith `06 {Binghamton University} was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round in June 2009. He is currently pitching in their farm system.
Coach Carrese`s 20 season record is 317-152 (.676 ) with the Suburban Council record at 212-88 (.706 ). Under Coach Carrese the Plainsmen have won 14/20 Division Championships, two Section Two Championships in 1994 and 1996,twice Finalists for the AA Section Two Championship in `05 & `06, twice NYS Regional Championships, `94 & `96 and played in the NYS Final Four in `94 & `96. The 1996 Plainsmen were NYS Finalist in the Class A bracket.
The Plainsmen Baseball program has been awarded the NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Award 20/20 seasons under Coach's direction.
Coach is the Region I ABCA {American Baseball Coaches Association} Chair for the HS All-American Committee. He received the 2005 ABCA Region I Coach of the Year award and was selected to speak at the national convention for the ABCA in San Diego 2009. He has also been selected as a speaker for the 2009 BCA Convention in Tucson, Az and the 2008 NYSPHSAA Clinic in historic Cooperstown, NY at the Hall of Fame.
Jim also serves a a founding member and VP of the newly formed NYSBCA {New York State Baseball Coaches Association}. In addition to those duties Coach Carrese has served on the Section Two Baseball Committee as the Suburban Council chair since 1996.
Coach founded the CPBC {Clifton Park Baseball Camps} in 1994. The camps for High School and Youth players serve 300 players annually. The CPYBC {Clifton Park Yankees Baseball Club} was founded in 2001 to afford opportunities for our High School players to play in a competitive
Fall league.
Coach Carrese is a 1975 graduate of Burnt Hills where he lettered in Football and Baseball. Jim was the Student Government President in his senior year and served in many capacities in Student Governemnt thru his High School career. Jim was the cleanup hitter on the 1975 Class A Section Two Champion Burnt Hills baseball team. Carrese hit .348 and led his team in doubles and game winning hits. Jim placed second in the Capital District Connie Mack Batting title race in the summer of `75 with a .424 average. Carrese later moved onto to Cortland State where he played collegiately for two years and served as the Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at Cortland State in the `78 & `79 seasons.
At Cortland State he was the PE Academic Advisor Club founder and President.
Coach`s teaching and coaching career began in the fall of 1979. Jim has held Football-Baseball and teaching positions at Scotia-Linton {Schenectady}-Niskayuna and Shenendehowa. Coach came to Shenendehowa in the fall of 1986 and began his teaching and coaching career here in Football & Baseball. Jim was the JV Head Football coach from 1986 thru 1996. Jim`s teams won six championships and placed second three times.
In the fall of 1997 Jim moved to the varsity staff to serve as the Special Teams Coordinator and position coach for QB-Defensive backs. In 2000 and 2001 Jim served as the Modified Football Coach.
In the Spring of 1987 Jim was appointed as the new JV Baseball coach. He served in that role until his appointment a Head Coach of Baseball in 1991.
The Shenendehowa Baseball program is pleased to have served the Community Baseball programs for more than 20 years. Our Youth Coaches Clinics in March-April and our on the field clinics with different age groups have established a tradition in the Capital District.
