Coach Christodulu

Greg Christodulu joined the Shenendehowa staff as a Dean of Students and Physical Education Instructor at High School West in the fall of 2002.  He currently teaches full-time Physical Education at High School East and serves the athletic department with day to day operations as Faculty Manager.  Prior, joining the staff at Shenendehowa, Greg served as Athletic Director at Johnstown School District (1999-2002) and taught Physical Education and coached in the Gloversville School District (1996-1999)

 

The last three seasons, the offensive group has responded with 7.6 runs per game and a program batting average of .339, with a team

 batting average of .374 in 2010.  There have been 9 players to hit over .400 since his arrival to the varsity staff.  In 2011, Brandon Cogswell hit .500 while on his way

 to being named to the ABCA High School All-American Team.  Fourteen offensive players have been recognized as All-League players while eight of those were named

 to the first team.

 

          Coach Christodulu also contributes to the Shenendehowa football program.  From 2002-2007 his contribution to varsity football witnessed three Section 2 Championship appearances, winning back to back titles in 2002 & 2003. It also included trips to the Regional Championship in 2003 and a trip to the Carrier Dome for the Class ‘AA’ championship game in 2002.  During his time with the varsity as an assistant coach, the team accumulated a record of (49-10).  He currently is an assistant coach on the freshman football team at Shenendehowa where they have been (31-3) over the last three years.

 

From 1991-1996, Coach Christodulu was Head Coach of Baseball at Susquehanna University, (104–85–3), in Selinsgrove Pennsylvania.  During that span, it is still recognized in the history of the program as its most successful period.  The program set the school record for wins in a season twice (1992-22 and 1995-25),competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship, (1992, 1995), participated in the Division III National Playoffs, (1992, 1995), won the Middle Atlantic Conference for the first time in the schools history, and won its first NCAA playoff game (1995).  By 1996, Coach Christodulu had coached five of the six all time hit leaders in the history of the program.  All six of his teams accumulated a team batting average of .300 or better during his tenure. Numerous players were named to the All-Conference team, three of his players were named to the All-American Academic team and five were named All-Region.  Coach Christodulu had also served on the M.A.C. Games Committee, and the N.C.A.A. Mid-Atlantic Region National Playoff Selection Committee.  In 1995, the Middle Atlantic Conference and Louisville Slugger recognized him as “Coach of the Year”.  In 1996, Coach Christodulu served as the Mid-Atlantic Region site director.

 

                Coach Christodulu’s contribution to Susquehanna University did not end with baseball.  He also served as offensive coordinator for the football program from 1990-1995.  The team accumulated a record of (44-19) and was consistently ranked at or near the top of many league offensive categories during his leadership.  The 1991 Susquehanna University team recorded a (11-2) record and reached the National Semi-Finals in Division III football.  His other football coaching stints include stops at the University at Albany and James Madison University.

 

Collegiately, the former Syracuse University quarterback, and University of Delaware graduate, earned 7 varsity letters at the collegiate level.  Syracuse University Football (1982-1983), University of Delaware Football (1985-1986), University of Delaware Baseball (1985-1987).  While at Syracuse, Greg became the first “true freshman” to start at quarterback in the history of the program when he faced Maryland during the 1982 campaign.  He also engineered the football programs 500th win against The United Stated Navel Academy in Annapolis Maryland on 11/5/83.  While at Delaware, his (14) homeruns in during the 1985 campaign, was at the time, the second highest total in program history.  During the summer of 1985 Coach Christodulu played in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball Summer League for the Orleans Cardinals, now known as the Firebirds.  Following his senior football campaign at the University of Delaware in 1986, the Newark Touchdown Club recognized him as the teams “Unsung Hero” for the N.C.A.A. IAA National Quarter-Finalist football team.

 

The former three sport athlete from Gloversville New York won Section 2 Championships in Football, Basketball and Baseball.  In 1981, following his senior football season, Greg was named New York State First Team Quarterback, New York State “Player of the Year”, and to the High School “Centenary” Prep All-American Team.

 

Greg Christodulu received his B.S. degree from the University of Delaware in 1987 and his M.S. degree from the University at Albany in Educational Administration in 1992.  He resides in Clifton Park with his wife, Dr. Kristin Christodulu.
